Brian Kelly, Dabo Swinney, Joe Exotic. What do these 3 gentlemen all have in common?
Well, aside from their affinity for stripes and being tied to unlawful acts (see below), they are also known for their inability to successfully command Tigers under their control. For Joe, at least he seemed to be having fun, I cannot say the same for Dabo and BK.
- Joe: guilty on two counts of hiring someone to murder Baskin in Florida, eight counts of violating the Lacey Act by falsifying wildlife records, and nine counts of violating the Endangered Species Act by killing five tigers and selling tigers across state lines
- Brian: 10 counts of extortion and robbery, in amounts upward of $95 million. (Also, he killed a guy)
- Dabo: just google what his brother did, I can’t disclose that here. Hint: Jared from Subway
Colorado hosts FCS powerhouse North Dakota St:
Colorado 31
NDSU 26
- Year 2 of Coach Prime is officially underway, as his Buffaloes face off against the Bison of North Dakota State. In a fun game between a lot of former 2-3 star recruits, it was actually the former 4 & 5 star players that shined the brightest (who would’ve thought?). The former #1 player in the country, Travis Hunter, did his thing.
- 7 rec for 132 yards and 3 TD’s, while adding 3 tackles and a pass breakup on the defensive side of the ball.
- “A really sloppy game that Colorado probably should’ve lost” – Me, just now. Now, I know it’s week 1, and sometimes it takes a few quarters to really shake the rust off, but geez Colorado looked like shit. Their defense can’t stop a nosebleed, and on offense they seem to be taking from my CFB 25 playbook, run hurry up and spam the same 4 plays over and over again. I mean in their defense, it was absolutely working, take advantage of having some of the most athletic and skilled WR’s in football. Shadeur looked okay, I’m still not convinced he is a 1st round QB, but maybe that’s the cynicism talking. He underthrew most his deep balls and was continuously bailed out by bullshit defensive pass interference calls.
- NDSU put up a fight and they were able to move the ball and control clock with ease the first 3 and a half quarters. When they needed it most though, Colorado’s edge rushers stepped up big and got the stops they needed. FCS team or not, NDSU is formidable, having won 9 (NINE) championships since 2011, so I’m giving credit to the Buffs for closing this game out.
#1 Georgia buries #14 Clemson in Atlanta
UGA 34
Clemson 3
- In a (not-so) neutral game in Atlanta, GA, the #1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs dismantled a flustered Clemson team, 34-3. A defensive battle in the first 30 minutes resulted in a 6-0 UGA lead at half, until an explosion of offense from the dawgs blew the game wide open. Outscoring an anemic Clemson offense 28-3 in the second half, the Dawgs were led by QB Carson Beck (22/33, 278 yards, 2 TDs) transfer WR London Humphreys (2 rec, 63 yards, 1 TD) and RB Nate Frazier (pictured below).
- If you were not familiar with UGA’s true freshman RB Nate Frazier before this game, you surely are now. The young man stepped up big time, as the Dawgs were missing 2 of their 3 starting backs, Trevor Etienne (suspension) & Roderick Robinson (toe). Branson Robinson, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, looked shaky as the ankle injury he sustained in camp seems to be lingering. This gave Frazier all the opportunity he needed, as he finished with 11 carries, 83 yards and a TD. As UGA’s backfield slowly starts to put itself back together, expect more of Nate Frazier.
- Clemson was held to less than 200 yards of offense for just the 5th time since 2008, yikes. The blame doesn’t just fall onto Coach Swinney’s shoulders though, as 2nd year OC Garrett Riley and Jr. QB Cade Klubnik are just as guilty for this lackluster performance. A poor matchup for the Tigers, as the relentless UGA defense was a brick wall for anything Clemson tried to do. Holding them to 2.2 yards per rush, Klubnik had no choice but to try and air it out, resulting in a Deja Vu moment for Dawgs safety Malaki Starks, as he made an incredibly acrobatic interception to effectively put the game away.
- I’m not sure what the future holds for Clemson, as the ACC appears to be wide open, and their schedule is favorable. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team figure it out and make an appearance in the ACC title game.
- For the Dawgs, they continue to roll, and prepare for the powerhouse that is Tennessee Tech.
#19 Miami pisses in Florida’s swamp
Miami 41
Florida 17
- Quarterback, time and time again, proves to be the most important position (aside from reverse cow-girl), as UF struggles and Miami shines.
- Go ahead and put a Heisman future on Miami QB Cam Ward, senior transfer from Washington State. Real ball-knowers (like myself) knew of his calm electric play-making skills years ago (shoutout Incarnate Word), watching him play PAC-12 after dark football. He lit up an ‘SEC defense’, completing 26/35 for 385 yards and 3 scores. Ward looked every bit experienced and poised, while his counterpart, UF QB Graham Mertz, looked like a deer in headlights. Mertz struggled to throw the ball downfield, finishing with just 91 total yards. Aside from junior RB Montrell Johnson’s 71 yard TD run, the Gators offense was non-existent.
- For the Gators, we saw a QB change in the late 3rd quarter, as highly touted 5 star true freshman QB DJ Lagway entered the game. He had a bumpy start, throwing an interception on his second drive. The dual-threat youngster did show flashes though, extending plays with his legs. It’ll be interesting to see how Billy Napier handles the QB position going forward, especially as his seat heats up.
- ACC Favorites?
- Mario Cristobal in year 2 has this team rolling, and in an ACC that doesn’t have an alpha, can the Canes fill that hole (giggity)? Cam Ward is commanding this offense with ease, as Miami scored on 7 of 10 possessions, and the defense is flying around, forcing 3 turnovers. Look out for the Canes…
#7 Notre Dame claims Jesus as 12th man in College Station
Notre Dame 23
Texas A&M 13
- Maybe not the most entertaining game, but a good one nonetheless. In Mike Elko’s debut as Texas A&M’s newest overpaid coach, he filled Jimbo’s size 7 shoes perfectly by losing at home to a ranked opponent.
- Riley Leonard – known faith haver- transferred to ND last offseason after going on a vision quest and seeing Marcus Freeman in a stain glass window cradling the CFP trophy as if it were a newborn. Leonards’ faith in bringing that vision to life lifted the Irish to a 23-13 victory Saturday night. While his stats don’t jump off the paper (18/30 158 yards 0 TDs), he played an integral part in ND’s second half success, as he used his legs to extend plays and drives. The real hero was sophomore RB Jeremiyah Love, who had the go ahead 21 yard TD run to give the Irish a 20-13 lead with 1:54 left to play.
- As for TAMU, they’re led by sophomore QB Conner Weigman, who is not very good at football. Kidding, but as the former #3 overall QB in the 2022 class, Weigman has had a lot of pressure on him since arriving in College Station. After a sub-par year last year, A&M fans we’re ready to see him take the next step as a signal caller, and this was as good a stage as any. Unfortunately for them, Weigman finished 12/30 for only 100 yards, 0 TD’s and 2 INTs. In his defense, Texas A&M is without a true WR1, as they lost their biggest weapon last year to the portal (Evan Stewart – Oregon) . Mix all that with going up against a very talented ND defense, and the end result isn’t all that shocking.
- Note: Notre Dame could win out, and win every game by 100, and they still wouldn’t be able to clinch a top 4 seed in the CFP playoff. Join a conference you pretentious assholes.
- The Atlanta Braves suck.
- It’s been a year from hell for the 2021 World Champions, as they’ve experienced countless injuries, misfortune, and to make matters worse, the boys are getting absolutely worked by the Phillies right now.
- Currently 7 games down in the NL East, the Braves are barely holding onto the last Wild Card spot by a single game, over sworn enemies the New York Metropolitans. At this point, do they even WANT to get into the post season? Short answer: absolutely. Why not? Two of the last 5 World Series champions came from the Wild Card, and Matt Olson is heating up, so why not us?
- Lastly, I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend. Well, everyone except Brandon Nimmo, I hope that guy got locked in a hot car outside a Dave and Busters.
- Lets all celebrate those hard working individuals, for example, and I’m just spit balling here, some really handsome hardworking guy who is spending his labor day, laboring away for you idiots. I wouldn’t know anything about that, since it’s a hypothetical, but IF that were real, he’d probably say you should donate to his “Help me buy a used 2006 Toyota Corolla CE Sedan 4D” fund.
Love you guys,
TWD
