I’m not sure about you guys (and girls) but I’m still hungover from last weekend. Both literally and figuratively from that avalanche of #sports. A great 2 days of CFB, a mediocre 2 days of NFL, President Cup golf and even some baseball. We saw the end of the MLB regular season this week, and now we’re onto October, where anything can happen. I haven’t watched much beisbol this year but I’ve got the Giants & Mariners meeting in the big dance. Ichiro and company are gonna upset Barry Bonds and ruin his near perfect season #baseball #yoffs
Holy mother of points. Is the NFC South the best division in football?? Every single person alive was surveyed, survey says — YES! Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins, a battle for the ages. A game with absolutely no defense and close to a million passes thrown, this did not fail to keep anyone’s attention. A very back and forth game where every player seemingly smoked their fantasy projection for the week (except Bijan, fuck that guy). Baker finished with 3 TD passes but the real story was Kirk Cousins being absolutely unconscious all night, finishing 42/58 for 509 yards (franchise record) & 4 scores. Hell, even the WRs on both sides decided to have career nights as Drake London (12-154-1TD), Darnell Mooney (9-105-2TD) and Mike Evans (2 TDs) were all over the place tonight. Unfortunately for us, the fans, the game had to end at some point and a winner had to be decided. The difference ended up being Falcons Ace Younghoe Koo. Going 2-5, missing 2 early in the 1st quarter and even having one blocked, but big Kirko got him a 52 yard redemption opportunity and he nailed it as the clock expired. In OT, the Birds won the toss, drove the field, and Hinds Community College legend KhaDarel Hodge took a 4 hard curl 60 yards for the game winning TD. What an electric game on a night where Matt Ryan was honored in the Falcons Ring of Honor, Kirk Cousins drops his nuts and breaks his single game yards record.
Friday Night
Syracuse @ #25 UNLV (UNLV -6.5 T: 58.5) 9:00 on FS1
Don’t look now but we have 2 Mountain West teams in the Top 25 this week. Obviously we have my Boise State Broncos at #21, led by Heisman front runner Ashton Jeanty, but we also have UNLV sneaking in there at #25. A week removed from having their starting QB & RB disassociate and seek financial compensation, the Rebels appear to have won the breakup. Much like a disgruntled ex, UNLV quickly moved on and found love with backup QB Hajj-Malik Williams (HMW). The not-so-young man (6th year) transferred to Vegas this summer after spending 5 years in Buies Creek, NC quarterbacking the Campbell Fighting Camels (real mascot). HMW balled out in their win over Fresno State last weekend, posting an impressive 82% completion percentage, 200 yards in the air and 120 on the ground with 4 scores. This old bastards still got it!
As for ‘Cuse, they could use a quality win. After beating Georgia Tech a few weeks ago, they overlooked Stanford and got clipped. This is a good get-right spot for HC Fran Brown and the Orange so I’ll take the points (+6.5). Should be another great addition of Friday Night Lights.
Saturday – Noon
Navy @ Air Force (NAVY -9.5 T: 36.5) Noon on CBS
Do you love America? Do you support our troops? Have you or a loved one ever been affected by mesothelioma? You hopefully answered yes to 2/3 of those. For those exempt from the mesothelioma camp, you should be tuned into this noon game. A battle of the sky and the sea, this one should be fun.
It’s been a tale of 2 different seasons so far for the academies. For the Falcons, their only win comes against an FCS opponent, Merrimack (?), and it’s been tough sledding, averaging just under 10 points a game. The Seamen on the other hand, are an explosive load of lads. Averaging 46 points a game, they have no problem getting it up. Undefeated and 7th in the country in rushing yards a game, the Midshipmen are an absolute WAGON. However, they are vulnerable defensively, and I think if the birds play keep away they can keep this tight. I’m selfish and want rivalry game points though so I’m taking the over.
#9 Missouri @ #24 Texas A&M (TAMU -2.5 T: 48.5) Noon on ABC
Am I blind or is Texas A&M favored? This smells a little too much like free cheese, and that’s usually when you get snapped up by the rat trap. So let’s read into this a little. Texas A&M: 4-1, only loss is to Notre Dame (WK1), with wins over Florida (ass) and Arkansas (best win). Missouri: 4-0, with a win of Boston College (frisky) and really not much else to show. They went to overtime against Vandy (won 30-27) 2 weeks ago and have had a bye week to think about their actions and be properly conditioned. They have more experience, shell shock from Vandy, and aspirations of a playoff birth. Verdict: I smell the cheese, and it’s smoked Gouda, I will absolutely be having that. Give me the Tigers to cover and win outright.
Saturday – Afternoon
Auburn @ #5 Georgia (UGA -22 T:51.5) 3:30 on ABC
Well, here we go. The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, edition #129. Both dogs and cats alike are licking their wounds after the events of last weekend. Both in need of a win, and both probably pissed off (maybe one more so than the other). On one team, we have the head coach tossing his players under the bus, saying, “You (the media) are all aware of what I inherited”. Yikes. Hey Hugh? Yeah man maybe don’t blame them for losing brother, especially when you’re the HEAD COACH. Anyway, on the other side is Kirby Smart, who was surprisingly positive after the Bama loss. He spoke highly of Milroe, DeBoer and what he’s built this year, while also emphasizing his team’s resiliency and perseverance to come back and somehow take a lead in that game. Georgia showed a lot of fight and look to continue that fight with the Tigers rolling in.
I don’t have much to say about Auburn to be honest, I’ve been disappointed with what I’ve seen. Inability to finish games despite strong starts, inconsistent QB play, turnovers and turmoil. They have a ton of talent, hell, they’re an SEC team. It’s time they start acting and playing like one. Everyone and their mother is on the Dawgs to cover and win big, and I’m drinking that cool aid too. Dawgs bounce back with a statement.
#12 Ole Miss @ South Carolina (MISS -9 T: 53.5) 3:30 on ESPN
Hmmm, an interesting one here. The Lane train hit a Mark Stoops shaped roadblock last weekend in a loss to Kentucky, and need to get back on the tracks. Not sure if an afternoon visit to Williams-Brice Stadium is the best way to do that. Vegas likes them to win by nearly two scores, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. The streets are saying USC star QB LaNorris Sellers is set to make his return for the Cocks, and if that’s the case…. oooooooo I wanna take USC to cover the spread. Before I make such a hasty decision, let me think about this. Lane needs a win after being embarrassed at home, Jaxson Dart needs to play well and bounce back. However they travel to one hell of an atmosphere, and he spells his name ‘Jaxson’. I think he might piss himself when he sees the duo of Kennard and Stewart chasing after his ass. Gimme the Gamecocks to cover and maybe even sorta kinda win outright??
Saturday – Night
A quick little peek at the night slate
#15 Clemson @ FLLLLorida State (CLEM -14.5 T: 46.5) 7:00 on ESPN
#10 Michigan @ Washington (WASH -1.5 T: 41.5) 7:30 on NBC
#4 Tennessee @ Arkansas (UT -13.5 T: 56.5) 7:30 on ABC
#8 Miami @ California (UM -10 T: 53.5) 10:30 on ESPN
1 – Poor FSU man, they can’t catch a break. They keep playing these juggernauts, Memphis, Cal, SMU and now Clemson?? Christ, that’s a gauntlet. Clemson will beat them by 24.
2 – Wooo!! Rematch of the CFP Championship last year!! Except both of these teams are pale imitations of their former selves attempting to masquerade as what once was. Michigan is better..I think? Night game in Husky stadium will be bumping though… your guess is as good as mine here.
3 – Tennessee goes to Fayetteville to face the Pittboss and his hog(s). I think this game will be really fun but it comes down to a battle of QBs, and UT wins that battle 10/10 so I like the Vols to keep rolling. Points will be scored though, lean the over here.
4 – Yowzers, gameday at 10:30pm EST. I guess fuck us on the east coast eh? I’m excited to see Cam Ward on primetime but damn I might have to butt-luge a red bull just to stay up for this whole game. Cal did beat Auburn and FSU so they could be frisky. Cam Ward is simply too good I fear, they win and cover.
Okay so I may have tried to branch out and find you guys (and gals) some obscure winners on PrizePicks last week. Needless to say that went about as well as a Diddy party in 2024.
We bounce back this week by playing the hits:
Breece Hall – he’s so due & it’s a London Game. Breece LOVES the Queen
Antonio Gibson – yeah I’m back on my bullshit. He’s scoring though idc
DJ Moore – he’s gone full Diva and is pissy. Counting on Caleb completing a redzone pass
Michael Pittman Jr. – Flacco is back and he’s gonna be slinging that pill to the big man
Stefon Diggs – revenge game here. No need for explanation
Deebo Samuel – if he plays, he WILL score
Some games I’ll be watching a little closely
Colts @ Jags o45.5: Points? Yeah, points. Joe Flacco is bacco and the Jags really shouldn’t be 0-4. Divisional rivalry game and a must win for Jacksonville. I can smell a shootout brewing.
Bills -1 @ Houston: Is this the Stefon Diggs revenge game?? Possibly, but the Bills just got sodomized on SNF by the Ravens. Josh Allen is pissed and will want to show that he won the breakup. Basically a pickem and nobody circles the wagon like the Buffalo Bills.
Ravens @ Bengals u49.5: I really want this game to be a fun shootout type of game but I just don’t know if I see it. This feels like a “go against your gut feeling” spot so that’s what I’m gonna do.
Seahawks -6.5 vs. Giants: Seahawks coming off a tough loss against Detroit and the giants suck. Geno continues to sling it
Winner: Football guys (and girls) – we are entering what I like to refer to as ‘The Slot’. What’s ‘The Slot’? Well, it’s the period of time where we are in a sports surplus, in this case, a football surplus. Starting last night, there will be 55 straight days of football. Let me say that again, there will be football on your TV every single day until November 27th. Pretty fucking nectar bro, eh? Just to specify for you sticklers, that’s CFB and NFL, but if you REALLY wanna get technical, we’ve got high school ball on too.
No loser this week, I’m not gonna disparage anyone you sickos.
Here is your featured meme of the week
Love you guys,
TWD
